Ajax star Mohammed Kudus can now aim ‘a bit higher’ than Everton following his performances at the beginning of this season.
The midfielder was linked with a move to Everton at the end of the transfer window, with reports in England stating that a loan deal had been agreed.
That was refuted in the Netherlands, where Ajax insisted there was no such agreement, and the player would be staying at the Amsterdam ArenA.
They maintained that stance on deadline day, despite Kudus going on strike and refusing to train in an effort to force through a departure.
He’s since established himself as something of a key player for Albert Schreuder, starring both in the Eredivisie and the Champions League.
He continued his form in the latter this week with a superbly taken goal against Liverpool at Anfield, levelling the scores in his side’s eventual 2-1 defeat.
“It is very surprising, because he had not shown that much at Ajax yet,” Ajax Showtime report him saying.
“He comes into a new role as a striker, and he was one of the few who stood tall. Especially in the forwards, where we didn’t see Bergwijn and Tadić himself made a bit of a sore impression.
“He has done well and then you know how it goes in Amsterdam. If it has to be paid, it will be paid soon. I do believe the price has gone up.
“If you show what you can do against Liverpool, that is worth so much more than a few games in the Eredivisie. Maybe now he can step in a bit higher than Everton.”
