Liverpool’s chase for Porto star Luis Diaz is today a big topic in Portugal.

Following claims from England saying the Reds could soon make a €72m bid for the winger, there’s been a big response to it, with people around the Dragons sounding excited with the possibility.

This morning, we’ve seen newspaper Record featuring a story claiming there are indeed ‘very concrete’ chances that Diaz will move to the Premier League, with the Reds being the ‘prime destination’ for him.

Now as more people get to talk about the rumour, a former Porto captain came up with his opinion on the possibility of this move.

Antena 1 radio station got to speak to Rodolfo Reis, who featured for the Dragons in the 70’s and 80’s, and believes that in case Liverpool do offer that amount, it’ll be nearly impossible for the Portuguese side to hold the player.

“Luis Díaz is currently desirable for any club and it’s logical, for all we know, that Liverpool will be without some players because of Africa Cup of Nations and so they are looking for replacements,” Rodolfo Reis told Antena 1 (via Record).

“They have money and whoever has it can do what they want I think that if the proposal is 70 million euros, FC Porto cannot say no. But it will, in my opinion, embezzle FC Porto a lot, but the club are in great financial difficulties, not only FC Porto but any Portuguese club, and, honestly, if this proposal is true, I think that FC Porto cannot say no.”

Since Diaz is protected by a €80m release clause, there’s no way Porto can make a lot more than that alleged offer, even in case they decide to hold the player until the summer.

The winger has 14 goals for the club this season.
