Denis Suarez really wanted to sign for Arsenal in January.
Really, really wanted to.
When the rumour first started, a little reading between the lines suggested it was the Barcelona player targeting a move to the Gunners, rather than the Premier League club initially identifying him.
This carried on throughout much of the month, as Denis knocked back the chance of a permanent move elsewhere in Spain, and wasn’t interested in other loan possibilities such as AC Milan.
The Catalan media made clear over and over again that for the 25 year old it was very simple: Sign for Arsenal on loan or stay at Barcelona until the summer transfer market.
He got his way and has now made two appearances for Unai Emery’s side, totalling 38 minutes.
Calciomercato have taken claims from SportItalia (Italian TV) to say the club are ready for another ‘battle’ with Arsenal in the summer.
Arsenal have the advantage, with it widely reported they have a buying clause. On top of that, things would have to go very badly for Denis Suarez to ditch the Gunners idea and plump for Milan instead.
