Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann is the priority transfer target for Barcelona in the summer transfer window and the La Liga winners’ efforts to sign the attacker are “fully on track”.
Catalan newspaper Sport claims Barcelona will try to close the deal with Atletico in June and plan to announce the transfer in July. They intend to hand the 27-year-old a five-year deal at Camp Nou.
Atletico star will be included in France’s squad for the 2018 World Cup and he wants his contract with Barcelona to be sorted out before the Fifa tournament in Russia.
After agreeing personal terms with Griezmann, Barcelona will look to agree a fee with Atletico that will see their star player join them this summer.
Griezmann has a €200m release clause at the Spanish capital club until June 30th. The price will drop to €100m from July 1st. Barcelona are hoping to negotiate to pay the fee in instalments rather than paying the entire amount in one go.
For this they’re trying to do things on a friendly basis with Atletico, and may even end up paying a little more.
Manchester United wanted the player last summer. However, the deal didn’t take shape an Griezmann continued with Atletico. The player gave his OK to Barcelona at the end of the last year after discarding the option of joining Jose Mourinho’s side, report Sport.
Everything is on track and the Catalan club are in the “final stretch” of signing the player. Barcelona are confident of landing the Europa League final’s star player and boosting their attack for the next season.
