Aston Villa are in the picture to sign Atlético Madrid’s João Félix, according to Sport.
The La Liga side have to make a decision on the forward’s future, who spent last season on loan at Barcelona.
Félix, who is not included in Diego Simeone’s plans, aims for a permanent transfer rather than a loan move. Barca intend to bring him back, but they have to sort out their finances before considering an approach.
Aston Villa have now joined the chase and it’s mainly because of Unai Emery.
The Villans manager is the Portugal international’s ‘great supporter’, and is convinced of helping him regain his best form at Villa Park. Emery’s views are shared by Aston Villa director Monchi and his assistant, Damià Vidagany.
Friday’s edition of AS claims the English club and Benfica are after Félix. His deal lasts until 2029, but the newspaper says Atlético’s intention is to ‘avoid seeing him’ at the club.
Benfica could bring him back to the club, while Aston Villa are also looking at him. AS say Emery, Monchi and Vidagany all believe the attacker can fit into their squad that will play in the Champions League next season. They are looking to sign him on a loan deal.
Félix didn’t impress for the Blues [four goals from 20 games] and the report claims Emery ‘would offer him a second chance’ to shine in England.
AS state the Villans are aiming for a loan deal, but this may not be enough considering Atlético want to recover a large part of the €126m they paid to sign him in 2019.
