French side Nantes are in talks with Aston Villa over a move for defender Fréderic Guilbert, who is free to leave Villa Park this summer.
A report two days ago from France Football indicated that the player had been told he was surplus to requirements by the club, particularly after the arrival of Matty Cash from Nottingham Forest.
That report claimed that Guilbert ‘could already leave the club’ and that Aston Villa were pushing him ‘towards the exit’.
According to their information, there were both Premier League and Championship clubs who were attentive to his situation, while a return to France was also mooted as a possibility.

The latter has now become a serious option, with journalist Mohamed Toubache claiming that Nantes are keen on the 25-year-old.
According to his information, they ‘rush on’ the defender, and while they haven’t ‘acted for the moment’ their interest is ‘more than concrete’.
That is all he is able to offer on the matter, failing to provide details on what sort of price they are looking at paying for the Aston Villa defender.
The good news for the Villans is that, if they are as desperate to get rid of the Frenchman as it seems, they now have a potential and serious suitor for him.
