On Monday, Foot Mercato stated Aston Villa are pushing hard to sign Lutsharel Geertruida, and have overtaken Paris Saint-Germain in the transfer race. It was also reported the Feyenoord player is in advanced talks with the Premier League side.
ESPN NL provide the latest on Aston Villa’s efforts to secure the 24-year-old’s services.
The defender was a regular for the Eredivisie side last season, managing nine goals and five assists from 47 games.
His displays have seen Aston Villa, PSG and Liverpool, mainly because of Arne Slot, take notice. The report says the Villans are currently best placed to sign the right-back, who can also operate across the back four.
Unai Emery’s side are ‘still hoping’ for the 24-year-old’s arrival at Villa Park this summer. They are ‘still trying’ to sign him but haven’t yet agreed a deal with the Dutch club.
Geertruida has less than a year left on his contract and sources have told ESPN that the Eredivisie side want €35m to sanction his sale.

In short, Aston Villa are keen on signing Geertruida for a fee less than €35m, but there’s no mention of the amount they are willing to offer.
