You could be forgiven if you’d never heard of VVV Venlo, but the Dutch club will hope to be better known next season as they look to achieve promotion to the Eredivisie.

VVV are currently 7 points clear at the top of the Netherlands’ second division, the Jupiler League. They’re not resting on that and Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reports they’re in the process of trying to sign an Arsenal player on loan.

Arsene Wenger is said to be set to decide today whether he’ll let Gedion Zelalem leave Arsenal on loan for the Dutch club. If Wenger gives his blessing then De Telegraaf believe the deal could be done very quickly.

Wenger probably isn’t an expert on VVV but if Arsenal are going to loan a player to a second tier Dutch side then it may as well be the one sitting on top of the table.

Transfermarkrt list Zelalem as having an Arsenal contract ending in June. If that’s the case then Wenger may look for an extension before the loan, otherwise this could be a more permanent goodbye.
