Joan Jordan to Arsenal was the subject of several claims in Spain during the winter market, although the story probably didn’t get the attention it deserved.

The Sevilla midfielder’s agent wasn’t pushing his client to the market, and that’s perhaps why the Arsenal claims didn’t grow as much as others.

At the end of the window it was reported in Spain that Arsenal have been willing to spend €35m on the signing, but were told a January move was off the cards. They made an approach to Sevilla to find out the possibility of a deal, and the Gunners were then made aware that it wasn’t going to happen in that window.

Given Joan Jordan’s release clause is €60m, and the player wasn’t pushing for a transfer, it left them with no options to pursue the winter move further. There’s a conceivable chance that this track was one Arsenal went down before then moving to secure Martin Ødegaard on loan.

The 26-year-old has been named by Marca in their team of the week, following his performance for Sevilla against Getafe. He contributed two assists in a 3-0 victory, with WhoScored rating him 8.2/10.

That takes him to six assists for the season, with three of those, and a goal, coming in the past four La Liga matches.

Arsenal will almost certainly be keeping an eye on the player, and an attempt in the summer may well depend on what happens with Ødegaard.
