Flamengo are still making money from the sale of Pablo Mari to Arsenal, according to claims from the Brazilian media today.

Globo Esporte reports that in case the defender enters the pitch in the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Thursday, then the Gunners must pay the Rio de Janeiro side €1m.

That’s because in the transfer contract there’s a clause which says Flamengo get a €1m bonus every time Mari makes ten appearances for the Gunners, with a limit of €8m.

Globo Esporte points out the first bonus took a while, since the player made his debut for the club in March 2020, and due to an injury only returned in December.

He’s having his 10th match for the club now.

They add that according to Flamengo’s financial reports, they’ve already received €4m in bonuses for Mari, although these clauses aren’t made clear.

The Spaniard joined Arsenal in a €8m loan spell in January 2020, and had his move made permanent for another €8m in the summer.
