Arsenal are one of the sides interested in a move for Villarreal forward Álex Baena and ‘prepare their respective offer’ for the player alongside other suitors.

That’s according to Fichajes, who say the Spanish side are aware they face ‘enormous difficulty’ in keeping the player this summer.

The report that Baena’s ‘leap in quality’ this season had led him to shining and thus being picked up by several top-level European teams.

Atlético de Madrid are one of those but have been joined by Arsenal and Chelsea in preparing ‘their respective offers’ for the player.

The nature of these offers isn’t mentioned but Baena does have a €60m release clause in his contract after signing a new deal at the club in January that ties him to the club until 2025.

Either way, Villarreal accept that it will be difficult for them to keep hold of one of their stars given the teams that are interested in him, including the current Premier League leaders.

That new deal means they are protected, though, so there is no need for them to sell on the cheap this summer if clubs do come calling.

It is therefore up to Arsenal to reach a figure that Villarreal are willing to accept for the winger, who has scored 10 goals in all competitions this season, and it seems they are already preparing an offer to test the Spanish side’s resolve.
