For the past few weeks, several reports from Europe and South America have been claiming that Flamengo are interested in signing Pablo Mari back from Arsenal.

With the defender having little playing time under Mikel Arteta, it’s been said the Rio de Janeiro side see the situation as an opportunity to sign him on a loan deal.

The latest update we had seen had come from Torcedores, who claimed there were already contacts for the move, even though Arsenal director Edu Gaspar would rather keep the player in Europe.

However, as Globo now features a piece on the rumour, they claim there’s nothing going on for now.

The outlet first explains where this story comes from, and says that according to their own sources, Flamengo haven’t opened talks with Arsenal or with Mari’s staff for now.

It’s said there’s ‘no proposal to player or club’.

The Spaniard has only made three appearances under Mikel Arteta this season, two of them in the first couple of fixtures of the Premier League, and it would be no surprise to see the Gunners accepting an offer for him in the January window.

First, though, Flamengo need to make one.
