Less than a month ago, we covered an article from SportBild which was headlined: ‘Gbamin, for €35m to England?’
Arsenal were the only interested club named, which backs up their recent interest.
Now, Bild have an article on Jean-Philippe Gbamin wanting to leave Mainz this summer, and Arsenal are again mentioned.
It’s claimed Arsenal offered €30m for the player last summer, which was rejected. The 23 year old defensive midfielder/central defender doesn’t have a release clause so Mainz can ask what they see fit.
Bild believe the club hope they can even get something approaching €40m. Gbamin has a contract lasting until June 2023, which he signed in August of last year.
The player is quoted as saying: “Last year, the club made the decision that I was not allowed to change. I accepted that, checked it off quickly and also processed it. But this summer can be different.
“I assume that we come to an agreement. Of course, it would be nice if everything went through before the holidays.”
Asked where he’s going, Gbamin said Greece, USA and Spain, so he was pushed on whether he’ll also be visiting England, and answered: “No, maybe later to work…”
It’s not only the Premier League which attracts, with the player explaining: “Also in Germany there are clubs that could interest me. Maybe Dortmund or Leverkusen – I like these clubs.”
An interesting one for Arsenal fans to keep an eye on.
