Arsenal and Aston Villa now show up as two potential destinations for Atlético Madrid striker Matheus Cunha.

That’s something claimed today by Goal Spain, who report the player has his ‘hours counted’ at the La Liga side.

It’s said Cunha’s departure from Madrid is ‘imminent’, as Atlético want to listen to ‘any offers’ that arrive for him in January. Fortunately for them, there’s big interest from the Premier League, where Arsenal and Aston Villa are said to be keen.

Starting with Aston Villa, it’s claimed that Unai Emery is looking for strikers who can reinforce the squad. And since they’ve been keen on Cunha for months, they believe he could be a ‘good market opportunity’ in the January transfer window.

In Arsenal’s case, they continue to look for a replacement for Gabriel Jesus. It’s said the Gunners ‘surround the possibility’ of landing Cunha as they study if the operation is economically viable.

Even though the 23-year-old is protected by a €100m release clause, Atlético Madrid will be considering all offers above €30m. They ‘admit’ that his future should lie in the Premier League, where other clubs such as Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United are also interested in his signing.
