Earlier on Thursday, Sport Bild broke the news that Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka was in Germany ahead of his move to Bayer Leverkusen.

The Gunners midfielder had been waiting for some time to get the move sorted, but Mikel Arteta and co. didn’t want to let him go until they were they had a replacement.

The man arriving at Arsenal for that role is Declan Rice, with a deal for the England international now all but wrapped up, which has opened the door for Xhaka to travel to Germany, where he has now completed his medical, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Germany journalist explains the two clubs reached a ‘total agreement’ for the transfer on Wednesday night.

This led the player to travel so he could undergo his medical, which he has ‘completed now’.

The fee Bayer Leverkusen will be paying Arsenal will be ‘€25m with bonus payments included’, with a contract until 2028 (Bild said 2027) to be signed.

In fact, it’s so far along that there should be an ‘announcement today’.
