Ander Herrera is now not only a Manchester United teammate of David De Gea, he’s also in the Spain squad with the goalkeeper. Herrera has been enjoying a good season under Jose Mourinho and that’s led to him getting international recognition.
Speaking to Jugones (via El Bernabeu) Herrera made it clear he wants De Gea to stay just where he is: “I want to see him defending the goal of United. I hope so, but everything can change in football.”
The goalkeeper’s failed transfer to Real Madrid the summer before last clearly annoyed the player but he’s seemed settled at Manchester United since, with Herrera not wanting to talk to De Gea about it too much: “I tried not to get too much into the subject because it is not easy for him to be one day in one place and the next day in another. He learned a lot from it. It has made him more mature.”
Herrera and Mourinho have really hit it off at Manchester United, with the midfielder praising his manager whenever given the chance, and he’s done so once again: “He is a great team coach, I will remember him as a coach who has marked me, it is a myth of the defensive coach, we had to put a tag and Guardiola was the offensive and Mourinho the defensive.”
