Manchester City defender João Cancelo’s decision to join Barcelona on loan has paid off and he’s currently enjoying life at the Camp Nou.
He’s been consistent this season and even managed a goal and an assist in Barca’s 2-1 Champions League win over FC Porto.
Mundo Deportivo state Barca have decided to make the Manchester City owned player’s stay permanent and the ‘great performance’ on Tuesday has only confirmed their desire. He’s on the front page of today’s newspaper, with ‘priority Cancelo’ written in bold.
Both the La Liga side and Xavi Hernández are in agreement the right-back needs to be retained, and the latter also wants to continue at the Camp Nou.
It’s claimed the Catalan club’s ‘desire to sign Cancelo is total’ and this has been relayed to his agent, Jorge Mendes, who will ‘do everything he can’ to make his client’s ‘dream come true.’
The outlet states Manchester City value the 29-year-old at around €25m, which is a figure lower than other reports, and the Spanish giants will try to lower the price during negotiations with the Citizens.
Signing Cancelo for less than €25m, given his form this season, seems utterly delusional.
The Blaugrana haven’t yet started talks with Pep Guardiola’s side and believe it is too early. At the same time, Mundo also say Barca are well aware that they ‘will have to fight’ to make Cancelo’s stay permanent.
This report comes a day after Sport stated the Premier League winners are willing to facilitate the fullback’s exit due to his ‘difficult relationship’ with Guardiola.
