Brighton & Hove Albion target Darwin Nunez should not leave his club Benfica this summer, according to his agent.
Representative Edgardo Lasalvia spoke this week to ESPN Uruguay, and despite claiming that there have been contacts for a move in this transfer window, the striker is actually expected to stay in Lisbon.
“We had polls for Darwin, but there was never a formal offer. We’ve spoken and they asked about him. In principle, Darwin is going to stay in Benfica at least until December of this year,” Lasalvia told ESPN.
Newspaper Record covers the quotes, and returns to claiming that the Seagulls made a couple of attempts to sign Nunez from Benfica already.
This time it’s claimed that Brighton started with an offer of €30m, and after having the bid rejected, they made a second attempt with €32m plus performance goals and the percentage of a future transfer.
Benfica continue to resist, with Record now claiming that Nunez’s release clause is €150m. The Portuguese media has been claiming that the Eagles expect the striker to shine this season and be worth a lot more next summer.
Signed in a €24m deal from Almeria in 2020, Nunez had 14 goals and 12 assists in 44 appearances in his first year at Benfica.
