Chelsea are chasing Emelec youngster Johan Mina, his agent has revealed.

In a chat with radio Area Deprotiva this week, representative Klinton Tenorio has claimed that the Blues have been asking for information on the teenager, and are becoming aware of the possibilities of signing him in the next couple of years.

“He’s a kid who has been followed since the U15, there are already European clubs interested in him and now much more,” Tenorio told Area Deportiva (via Ecuvisa). “From what I understand, one of the teams who are constantly asking for information from him are Chelsea, who permanently want to have him and take him to do internships to keep him close.

“They are aware that until he’s 18 he will not be able to leave. They want to have that closeness to have everything advanced by the time he turns 18.”

Mina is currently 16, turning 17 in May, and still doesn’t have a professional contract with Emelec. His representative explains that a new deal should be negotiated soon, as it’s not their intention to leave the club for free.

“We have met and we continue to meet, it’s not so easy because Emelec has this way of doing things out there. We respect that he is a club player but from the age of 18, to belong to Emelec, the player must have a contract of age.

“We don’t want the player to go free, in any way, but we are always going to fight for the rights of the player. Now Emelec will be interested in signing it because they’re seeing the type of player they have.”

Wearing Ecuador’s number 10, Mina has been shining in the U17 South American Cup. The fact he doesn’t have a real contract with Emelec has been making some noise in the local press, since the club obviously have a big talent in their hands.

As clubs need to wait for him to turn 18 before offering a deal, Emelec still have one more year to sort things out and don’t miss a chance to make a lot of money.
