Lucas Bergvall’s development at Djurgårdens IF Fotboll convinced Tottenham Hotspur to bet on him. Earlier this year, Spurs reached an agreement with the Swedish club for him to arrive at the Premier League side in the summer.
Since securing a move to Tottenham, the 18-year-old has impressed on the pitch, scoring four goals and registering four assists from nine games this year.
Fotbollskanalen were able to find out the Tottenham signing is the most popular player at Djurgårdens off the pitch.
When they went looking for which Djurgårdens player’s shirts sold the most, the Sweden international came on top. This is also backed by Tommie Lindberg, who is in charge of the club’s operations.
Fotbollskanalen asked the Swedish club’s official if there’s a big difference between shirt sales of Bergvall and others. Responding to that, Lindberg explained: “Right now, number one sells about three times more shirts than those placed in places two to five.”
Djurgårdens signed the incoming Tottenham player from IF Brommapojkarna in 2023 and the report claims his shirts were sold the most last year as well. This has certainly left the youngster surprised and he’s given his take on the reasons.
“It was actually unexpected. It really was. It was my first year in Djurgården and I didn’t play much. It was a bit up and down and I was injured a lot and so on,” Bergavll told Fotbollskanalen.
At the same time, the Swede is pleased to see fans wearing shirts with his name on the back.
“Yes, of course, it’s fun and of course it makes you proud that people want to buy the jersey with that name on the back, absolutely. It feels good in the heart,” he added.
