Chelsea’s search for a new midfielder doesn’t look like it’s getting anywhere very quickly.
Despite claims from the English media that two deals were on the verge of being done last week, nothing has really advanced, and if anything the routes to targets have become more difficult.
The Premier League club appear determined not to overpay on transfer fee or to give players contracts larger or longer than would be ideal, and this potentially leads to complications which narrow the realistic signings this month.
Chelsea have been linked with Adrien Rabiot on and off, and Catalan newspaper Sport believe they’re now genuine competition for Barcelona and have contacted the player’s entourage.
With a contract ending in the summer and with Rabiot not being picked at the moment due to his current situation, PSG are keen to find a solution during the January window.
Sport say that Roman Abramovich and his transfer team are ‘in a hurry’ to bring a midfielder in before the window closes and want the signing done before then.
To be clear, on Rabiot it’s stated Chelsea ‘want to register the player before the end of the winter market’.
