Portuguese newspaper Record reports Luiz Felipe Scolari and Ricardo Sá Pinto have, probably wisely, ruled themselves out of taking over at Sporting this summer.
With the Lisbon club parting company with Jorge Jesus, they need to find a new man as soon as possible and there’s not going to be a huge number of top names rushing forward, such is the situation at the club.
One of the men linked this week has been Marcelo Bielsa, with the Argentine of interest to Sporting.
Record call it ‘an ideas that pleases’ the club, but Leeds United are presented as the major problem.
The Championship club are working to hire Bielsa and it’s accepted he’s, at this stage, more likely to move to Elland Road, being the ‘main candidate’ for Leeds.
That doesn’t kill things dead and if Bielsa can’t find what he wants from Leeds then Sporting will be able to move in.
Another man of interest to the Portuguese club is Matías Almeyda, who it’s pointed out is also somewhere on Leeds United’s list.
