Leaving Celtic for ‘personal reasons’ over the summer, Emilio Izaguirre decided to go to Saudi Arabia to continue his career, clearly wanting to put some distance between himself and Scotland.

In an interview with Diario Deportivo Diez in Honduras, the left-back suggested he left against Brendan Rodgers’ will, revealing problems with agents in England meant he couldn’t stay at the club any longer.

That, in itself, explains the reasoning behind his decision to turn down offers he had to play in England’s second-tier, even if he feels he still has a lot to give in Europe.

He said: “These are personal things. I had Championship offers, but these are things that happen in life, and you cannot have regrets, always be positive and trust in God.”

After spending seven years in Scotland, the Honduras international has automatically become a key member of the squad at Al-Feiha, where he’s made 26 appearances so far.

We’ll have to see if the 97 times capped defender will be able to sort out his personal problems to return to Europe.

Then again, he isn’t hating life at his new club, with his family well settled, so he could end up staying.
