It doesn’t matter if Porto are unlikely to get a spot in the Champions League’s quarter-finals. With a gameweek coming, the local press is going for the protocol coverage of the Dragon’s trip to England.
Having lost 5-0 in Portugal, the Portuguese side now have the impossible mission to make a comeback against Liverpool at Anfield.
To cheer them up, local newspaper O Jogo was quite smart to interview a player from… Liverpool. Portuguese speaker Roberto Firmino has had a short chat with the outlet, which even made it to today’s front page.
Firmino has never been a player who’d come with surprising quotes in an interview, so what he basically did is to say that Porto are a great team and that the Reds got quite surprised with the away result at the Estádio do Dragão.
“Nobody expected a thrashing like that, even more from a visiting team. It’s not normal. It was a match between two great clubs in Europe, but we managed to impose our best game, with a lot of speed and exchanges of positions”, Firmino told O Jogo.
The Liverpool striker even claimed that Porto were better than the Reds in some parts of the game: “They even created more opportunities than us, especially in the second half, but we played with intelligence and we were able to take advantage of the opportunities we created. When losing they had to come out and we knew how to explore the spaces well to extend the result.”
“The comeback is unlikely, even in the form we’re in, especially at Anfield, but of course it’s not impossible. We have to get on the pitch and respect FC Porto. And that respect is to show our best football.”
