Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Barcelona at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening was an intriguing match as Antonio Conte came very close to pulling off a huge tactical win.
Willian scored a cracker after he’d already hit both posts, and Barcelona looked like they’d struggle to find a way through until a mistake and some Andres Iniesta magic helped Lionel Messi score.
The reaction has been mixed in Spain, but Willian is getting widespread praise, with the Brazilian putting in a performance which impressed many. At the other end of the scale is Andreas Christensen, and the Danish defender has found himself on the wrong side of some Spanish player ratings.
Marca (below) gave Christensen a blank mark, the same as they’ve done with Barcelona’s Paulinho, with the Barcelona midfielder failing to have a big impact before he was replaced by Aleix Vidal in the second half.
Over in Catalonia, Willian got four stars from Mundo Deportivo, the most on the pitch, whilst Christensen and Cesc Fabregas got one each. Going against AS, the Catalan newspaper say Rudiger was ‘invisible’ and they clearly weren’t impressed with his performance.
Sport have a different Catalan take and they give Christensen 6/10, with Paulinho not getting much local favour with just a 4.
