Remember all those stories sending Riyad Mahrez to numerous clubs all around Europe? Well, we might have an explanation for them now, as Le Buteur in Algeria are reporting someone has been passing themselves off as the Leicester City star.

For more than a year, this person has been, via WhatsApp, talking to ‘famous journalists’ at some of the biggest outlets in order to get free stuff.

Using a picture of Mahrez next to Ronaldo (R9) to trick them, the usurper had been asking for ‘certain privileges’, like VIP tickets to go see Paris Saint-Germain for ‘family members and friends living in the French capital’ or signed shirts.

In exchange for this, the person behind this was feeding the journalists ‘scoops’ regarding where he would be going next and other information about the Algeria national team.

Le Buteur reveal this is how the news about Liverpool apparent interest in the Leicester City forward (they aren’t) and the rumour of him being in Barcelona towards the end of the summer transfer window came about.

That’s why Mahrez vehemently denied speaking to journalists recently.

Furious, the Leicester star asked his entourage to look into this, which is when, after asking said journalist, the con man’s trick was exposed.

While the identity of the person hasn’t been discovered yet, they know he lives in France, using a French number, and had a rather ‘powerful’ network at his disposal.

In order to put an end this, Mahrez’s clan are considering pressing charges in the ‘coming hours’.

Bet you didn’t expect this when you woke up this morning.

We certainly didn’t.
