Staying at Aston Villa to repay the fans’ love following his tough knee injury, there was only so much Championship football Jordan Amavi was going to play before moving onto bigger things.
After all, when the Villains managed to sign him from Nice, the transfer was considered a coup, as the left-back was one of the more promising players in his position to come through in France.
Over the summer, the Aston Villa defender was very close to a move to Sevilla, but the La Liga side’s seemingly dodgy medicals saw the transfer collapse at the last minute.
This is where Marseille, and their desperate need to backup an ageing Patrice Evra come in, and after lengthy negotiations, a loan with a view to buy was sorted.
He said: “I came to Marseille to have fun. I’m loving it: I’m playing for Marseille in front of the best crowd in France. Then there’s the social aspect. Everyone welcomed me. We all get on really well. We laugh, we work, we tease each other: everything I love.”
Revealing he doesn’t have any apprehension about his knee anymore, Amavi also admitted to ‘struggling at Aston Villa’ last season, but with a lot of time on the pitch, especially since Evra’s unceremonious exit, ahead of him, and a recent France call up, that’s all behind him now and his future looks bright.
