Unless you decided to completely ignore everything that was going on in football during the last few days of the transfer window, and week or so afterwards, you know West Ham tried to sign William Carvalho from Sporting CP.
Since he isn’t a Hammer, you’ll also be aware that the London club’s attempts to bring in the Portugal international didn’t exactly go to plan, with the words ‘Dildo Brothers’ making headlines during the deadline day post-mortem.
While West Ham and the Portuguese refused to put this mess behind them, continuing their public squabbles off the pitch, the player has taken it upon himself to move on.
This has impressed Record, who go out of their way to praise the 25-year-old on Monday, after Sporting CP feared one of the consequences of the aborted transfer would be a drop in their star’s performances.
The Portuguese newspaper report that sources have told them William Carvalho’s behaviour has been ‘impeccable’ over the past few weeks, repaying Jorge Jesus’ faith in him, handing him the armband for the last three games.
Furthermore, the defensive midfielder has been more involved going forward, picking up two assists over the past two games.
Unlikely to move in January, Carvalho will probably have to wait until next summer to get a move away from Estádio José Alvalade, and, if this form and exemplary behaviour continues, he might even have ‘bigger’ clubs knocking on Bruno de Carvalho’s door.
