Arsenal’s interest in Lacazette isn’t anything new.
After all, Lyon made it very public last year by revealing exactly how much the Gunners had bid, only for the striker to stay at the Ligue 1 club for an extra season, but this summer seems to be the one when he will actually leave.
Very close to a move to Atlético Madrid until the La Liga club’s transfer ban was upheld until January, the France international is now having to decide whether to stay at Lyon until then, sign for them now and not play until 2018 or just sign for another club.
According to L’Equipe on Friday, that other club could very well be Arsenal, as the French magazine report the Gunners are getting closer and closer to the demands set by Jean-Michel Aulas, Lyon’s president, for his star striker.
L’Equipe even go as far as saying that an agreement between the two clubs could happen ‘very quickly’.
They also make it clear that Lacazette, even with a World Cup to play for next year, would be prepared to sign for Atlético now and not play until January when they can register him.
Didier Deschamps apparent reluctance to pick him for France despite his goalscoring record probably has something to do with that.
Still, Arsenal are said to have the ‘advantage’ in this one, and even include the possibility of Olivier Giroud going the other way.
Update: A second source has now confirmed this news, with RMC Sport’s Mohamed Bouhafsi tweeting that Arsenal had made a €50m bid for Lacazette.
