Just over a week ago, we covered the claims from Italy that Lazio were after Middlesbrough defensive midfielder Marten de Roon.
Having played for Atalanta during the 2015-16 season, the 26-year-old was an ideal target for the Serie A club as they look to replace the likely departing Lucas Biglia, but there was a problem with the price.
Corriere dello Sport explained back then that Boro, who paid around £13m for de Roon in the first place, were asking for around €13m this summer, a price Lazio weren’t prepared to meet.
On Thursday, Gazzetta dello Sport reveal what the Italian side are prepared to pay this summer: nothing.
The daily sports newspaper claim that Lazio, who could end up making around €40m+ if they manage to sell both Keita Baldé and Lucas Biglia in the coming months, are leaning towards a one year loan for de Roon, with a view to buying him next year for €10m.
Unfortunately for them, Middlesbrough aren’t exactly happy with that, and Gazzetta say there’s a difference of around €2m holding the deal up.
First, though, they need to sell Lucas Biglia.
