Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo has shared a positive update on Danilo’s injury situation.
ESPN in Brazil have been speaking to the Portuguese coach about various topics, including the progress of the midfielder’s recovery.
Danilo picked up an injury in Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth in the first game of this season and has been sidelined since then.
According to ESPN, the 23-year-old had fractured his ankle and is now in the ‘final stretch’ of his recovery. This has been revealed by the Reds coach, who has also detailed the efforts put in by the player to return to the pitch.
“He’s close to returning. Now we have to give him time to recover well from the injury itself and then increase his fitness levels so that he can return. But the process is good,” he said.
“We need to be patient, realise that it’s a traumatic injury that will require some more time on the pitch. It was a very tough moment to lose Danilo in the very first game. But he’s positive, he’s a very special boy.
“He’s had the opportunity to be in Brazil, he’s been working 14 hours a day on his recovery, he doesn’t leave anything aside and that’s a big advantage.”
The former Wolves manager’s comments on the Brazilian will certainly please Nottingham Forest’s fans.
Danilo arrived at the Premier League side from Palmeiras in January 2023 and signed a deal until 2029. Operating mainly as a defensive midfielder, he made 34 appearances in all competitions last season.
His return could probably help Nuno Espírito Santo and his side in their efforts to qualify for Europe as Nottingham Forest are currently fifth in the table, level on points with third placed Chelsea.
