Miguel Almirón has lost prominence at Newcastle United as he’s been restricted to 254 minutes from seven matches this season. The winger has made three starts of which one was in the Premier League.

The 30-year-old isn’t pleased with his limited role with the Magpies. That’s according to his agent, Daniel Campos, who revealed this during an interview with Radio La Red. His comments are relayed by TyC Sports.

Almirón’s deal at Newcastle lasts until 2026 and the agent insists his client has a desire to continue at the club.

“Although Miguel isn’t happy with the minutes he has in England, he wants to stay and fight at Newcastle,” he said.

The agent states Eddie Howe supports the Paraguay international and has requested him to continue with the Magpies.

“The coach always supported him. When he asked for something, he asked him to not leave. It must be a tactical or momentary issue,” Campos explained.

The player had an opportunity to leave Newcastle for MLS in the summer window. He had received an offer from Charlotte FC and the attacker was open to joining them.

Campos claims the transfer didn’t take shape because the bid wasn’t entertained by the Tyneside club.

“They offered around $18m. We had arranged a contract with them, but the club rejected the proposal from the United States,” he added.

Over the past few days, claims from Argentina have stated River Plate’s interest in Almirón. His representative states they are ready to study every offer but has doubts if River Plate can afford him.

“He has a valid contract. His contract was renewed last year for three more [years], and with the new owners of the club. Miguel is not desperate for money or to do crazy things. If there is an offer from any team, we will go through the competent channels,” the agent said.

“The clause, except for the Brazilians, is unaffordable [for South American clubs]. The problem is also the contract he has.”

Campos claims he’ll meet with Newcastle to talk about Almirón’s situation, but his quotes aren’t relayed by TyC Sports.
