Florian Lejeune is set to become a Newcastle United player, according to Marca.
The Spanish newspaper get very much to the point in a Friday edition snippet, and say: ‘Dani García se reunirá hoy con Fran Garagarza para intentar sellar la renovación. Además, el director deportivo aseguró que Lejeune se va al Newcastle.’
‘Dani García will meet with Fran Garagarza to try to seal the renewal. In addition, the athletic director said Lejeune goes to Newcastle.’
Garagarza is the club’s sporting director and Lejeune is a defender who has been strongly linked to Newcastle United in recent days, a Rafael Benitez spot in La Liga.
The Spanish press clearly think a deal is all agreed, but Garagarza wasn’t quite so absolute in his public comments, although he may have been more candid privately.
Diario Vasco say Lejeune ‘has a foot and a half’ outside of Eibar, and they quote Garagarza as saying it will be ‘very complicated’ to stop the player joining Newcastle.
Garagarza was also quoted as saying Newcastle are taking ‘very strong steps’ to complete the signing.
Lejeune, 26 years of age, was part of a good Eibar defence last season, a big factor in the team finishing a very respectable 10th in La Liga.
