While there are doubts over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s long-term future at Liverpool, he continues to impress for the club this season.
The Englishman has started every league game under Arne Slot this season, assisting once. He has shown that he is also very capable in a more possession-based setup under the Dutchman.
Earlier in the season, there was controversy when Slot took off Alexander-Arnold during the game against Brentford.
The right-back was asked about the moment by ViaPlay and he revealed that he doesn’t mind being treated in a stirct manner, and also stated that he has a very good relationship with the Dutchman.
He said, as relayed by FeyenoordPings: “He is strict with me, I like that. He helps me with the weak points in my game and he wants me to improve.”
The defender also spoke of how Slot has been trying to improve him and the instructions he’s been giving him in training.
“And if you are marked and other people come in and Ryan Gravenberch is marked, there is space behind him and you look for depth.”
Alexander-Arnold also revealed that the Liverpool boss’ training sessions are very detailed and focus on specific elements quite strongly.
“He always studies the opponent thoroughly and tells us where their weak spots are. Then we have to punish them on the field. The training sessions are much more intensive.
“The spaces are much smaller. It’s a very Dutch way of playing, in terms of ball handling. You always have to play to the back foot. If you don’t, he stops the session. Why do you pass to that foot and not to his back foot? It’s that detailed.”
It is quite clear that everything Slot is training the players to do is coming off, as they are at the top of the table and are two points clear of second-placed City.
Alexander-Arnold’s words suggest that the players are enjoying the detail that goes into everything and they are also improving. Things can only get better and if anything, it is only the lack of depth that can hamper Liverpool.
Otherwise, they look like sure-shot title contenders.
