Álvaro Fernández Carreras had a good game for Benfica on Saturday as they beat Farense 2-1 away from home. The fullback scored his club’s equaliser after Farense had gone a goal ahead.
Since signing from Manchester United, the 21-year-old has had a mixed period, but his fortunes have been much better in this campaign and under the command of Bruno Lage.
Sunday’s edition of Record rated Carreras the best player on the pitch, giving him 4/5. A mark also given to Angel Di Maria, Tomas Araujo and Kerem Aktürkoğlu.
In the aftermath of the match, Record quote the left-back as saying: “We came with the clear objective, to win. The environment was very beautiful. Wherever it is, the fans are always with us. It’s spectacular to play like this and at a club like this.”
Given Rúben Amorim has been been confirmed as Manchester United’s new permanent manager, following Erik ten Hag’s exit, player’s in Liga Portugal are going to be linked even more strongly.
Manchester United have a buyback clause for Carreras, which will only encourage things further.
Record state Amorim knows the youngster well and ‘can take him’, due to the clause, in a transfer which can ‘gain momentum’.
Manchester United obviously have issues at left-back but it’s perhaps wise for them to wait and see how Carreras does for the rest of the season before deciding on that clause.
