Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall has shared his advice for Swedish youngster Maximilian Ibrahimovic and John Mellberg as they make their way in the game.
The 18-year-old has been speaking to Sport Bladet about the duo, working from his own authority on the matter having been through the process himself.
Bergvall is one of the rising talents in Swedish football and was hotly fought over by a host of big European sides last year.
Tottenham eventually won the race for him, paying €10m to get him from Djurgården and even convincing him last minute to turn down Barcelona.
He’s also a regular for his country making his debut against Estonia in January and adding appearances against Azerbaijan and Estonia again in the Nations League games in September.
Sweden have already put big expectations on his shoulders, believing he will be a star of the future and leader of the national team. That’s led to increased attention, something the Tottenham man wants the next generation to be aware of.
“Above all, keep your feet on the ground and keep working. You are there for a reason. Sometimes you should also be able to reflect on and be proud of what you have achieved,” he said when asked what advice he’d give Ibrahimovic and Mellberg.
“It (extra attention) may not always be the most fun. But you have also learned a lot from it, that there is always a camera in your face. There are both pros and cons.”
