The ‘ghosts of a difficult time at Brighton’ are currently haunting Valentin Barco, who is yet to impress anyone on loan at Sevilla.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the Argentine full back is ‘in a bad light’ at the Spanish club at this moment in time.
The newspaper explains that while everyone was celebrating the 1-0 win over rivals Real Betis last week, the game did highlight some of the issues in the squad and ‘left some players singled out’.
The Brighton loanee was one of them, as he was sacrificed in place of Adrià Pedrosa in the starting 11 and then wasn’t even selected as his replacement when he was substituted off.
His absence was a result of his performance against Athletic Club de Bilbao, in which he was hauled off at half-time after a less than satisfactory defensive performance.
That was a wake-up call which has now become a ‘serious warning’ via him being left out of the derby. The fact is that Sevilla boss García Pimienta simply doesn’t trust him and has been justified in making that assessment from the player’s performances to date.
Estadio believe this latest setback is compounded by the fact he’s been left out of Argentina’s squad for this international break.
As far as they’re concerned, the ‘ghosts of his difficult time at Brighton’ are refusing to go away and that’s led to a disappointing loan deal at Sevilla so far.
