Not making your season debut until the beginning of October due to injury will always be an annoyance. Not being able to do so having just changed clubs will likely add extra frustration to the situation.
That’s what Mikel Merino has been living through since moving from Real Sociedad to Arsenal. His last competitive game had been as a very late substitute against England as Spain won the Euro 2024 final.
A shoulder injury then prevented him from making his Arsenal debut until the Champions League match against PSG on October 1st. At the weekend, he also got some minutes in the Premier League against Southampton, and now he’s ready to return to action for his national side.
Ahead of UEFA Nations League matches against Denmark and Serbia, Merino has been taken to the national team’s press conference on Tuesday.
When asked about his current injury and fitness situation, Mundo Deportivo quote the Arsenal player as saying: “I feel very well, strong, and having forgotten the fractured scapula injury I suffered. Very happy to begin this new adventure with my teammates; I’m looking forward to it.”
On his big move to the Gunners in the summer window, the midfielder said: “This summer has been one of the best of my life. My life has changed with the Euros and my signing for Arsenal”
“Arsenal was a project that really caught my attention, very ambitious. It’s a time in my career when I’m looking to grow and win titles. As for Real Sociedad, they haven’t had the best start to the season, with important people leaving, but the way they work is impeccable and I’m convinced that the results will eventually come.”
