Aston Villa striker Jhon Jáder Durán could be among the best in the world and join Real Madrid, but still has work to do on his character to get there.
That’s according to his uncle, Oswaldo ‘Sombra’ Durán, who has offered some words of advice to the Aston Villa man in an interview with Gol Caracol.
Durán is currently the undisputed rising star at Aston Villa under Unai Emery, having pushed on at the beginning of this season following a tumultuous summer.
He had been keen to join West Ham in the summer transfer window after spending last season as second fiddle to Ollie Watkins, but saw the move blocked despite making his stance clear on social media.
It was made clear that he was a part of Aston Villa’s plans moving forwards and that has been demonstrated this season, with Emery integrating the Colombian into the side more and more.
He’s been rewarded for his faith with goals, with Durán currently on five goals in eight games in all competitions, including three in his last four in the Premier League despite not yet managing more than 29 minutes in a single game.
The belief is that Aston Villa have a star on their hands and his uncle agrees with that, but only if Durán works on himself behind the scenes.
“We are talking about a player who, if he has his feet on the ground, if he lets himself be guided by his advisors, will be very great because he is very young and is not yet mature as an athlete,” he said.
“If his behaviour was not the best, it is normal; you have to let him see it and he will correct it. Having character is different from seeing or believing that others are less than me.
“Not speaking to people is not character for me, but because I am related to him and have known him since I was a child we believe that we have already achieved everything and since he is young, he may suddenly think that, but I have enormous faith that he is going to correct his behaviour.
“Jhon Jader is still a 20-year-old boy and there is a lot of room for improvement. When he plays as a starter, he will be among the top scorers in any league he plays in.
“God gave him virtues that he has to take advantage of and polish, such as his aerial game or getting behind the backs of defenders. Let’s hope that the next sale is to Real Madrid.”
