“Foundation is there” – Fabian Hürzeler reveals ‘good conversations’ with player, waiting for his decision on Brighton

Mats Hummels remains a free agent and is yet to decide his future.

While a host of clubs have been linked with the German defender, he hasn’t made his decision so far. Bologna were one of the clubs who had come forward for Hummels, but the move didn’t materialise.

Brighton have been one of the reportedly interested clubs and we did recently covered Florian Plettenberg’s claim that they have emerged as an option for the German.

There seems to have been some progress made in Brighton’s move for the veteran, with club boss Fabian Hürzeler having spoken to Sky Germany about the links.

Plettenberg relayed Hürzeler’s comments, while revealing the manager has a prior relationship with Hummels and that ‘good conversations’ have been held by the Seagulls. Having said that, the decision will come down to the player.

Hürzeler said: “We have mutual respect and had good conversations, and at the end of the day, the player has to decide whether he can commit to the club 100%.

“I have had a connection with the Hummels family for quite some time, which started back during my time at Bayern Munich.

“So the foundation is always there when I deal with the Hummels family.”

The journalist has also revealed that Hummels’ father – Hermann Hummels, discovered the Brighton boss as a player when he was only 12 years old during his time as a youth coordinator at Bayern Munich.

This would suggest that Brighton have a decent chance of landing Hummels but it remains to be seen how the scenario unfolds.
