Brighton & Hove Albion have emerged as an option for Mats Hummels, according to Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The 35-year-old has been without a club since his deal at Borussia Dortmund expired on June 30th. His final outing with them was in their Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.
Hummels has been linked with a move to several clubs and Brighton have been added to the list.
The journalist states the Seagulls are ‘seriously considering’ signing the centre-back this summer. He further adds Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler has had a phone call with the German in the last few days.
Hürzeler explained the Premier League side’s project to the defender while he talked about his plans for the future. It’s not clear whether their ambitions align.
Plettenberg claims the former Bayern Munich man is yet to make a final decision on his next destination.
Brighton are keen on securing Hummels’ services, to add an experienced central defender to their squad. Hürzeler and the English club will have to wait for his final decision.
Hummels clocked in 2,932 minutes from 40 games in all competitions for BVB last season.
