Borussia Dortmund have sent a counteroffer to West Ham United after they received a first bid for striker Niclas Füllkrug.

That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who say that those in charge at Dortmund, Lars Ricken, Sebastian Kehl and manager Nuri Sahin all sat to discuss the striker yesterday.

West Ham made an official bid for Füllkrug earlier this week as they continue to spend big for new manager Julen Lopetegui this summer.

The bid was said to have left the Champions League finalists with something of a dilemma as they don’t know what to do.

On the one hand a deal would be valued as the striker is 31-year-old and unlikely to command a similar figure at any point beyond this summer. On the other hand, they had been planning with him alongside Serhou Guirassy and would need to enter the market with limited funds to replace him.

Plettenberg now reports discussions were held yesterday, with the aforementioned trio all sitting together during pre-season in Bad Ragaz ‘until late’ discussing the matter.

That has led to a counteroffer being sent to West Ham, with Dortmund wanting €30m all in to sell the striker. The ball is now in the Hammers court and ‘talks continue’ to see if they’re willing to pay that fee.
