Brighton and Hove Albion remain interested in goalkeeper Kevin Mier, despite him renewing his contract with Cruz Azul.

That’s according to Antena 2, who report that the Colombian is still in Brighton’s sights after their interest in him was made apparent earlier this year.

They explain that while Mier was one of the surprise admissions from Colombia’s squad for the 2024 Copa América, there is still a chance he could be on the move to Europe this summer.

There had been some fear his omission from the national side would ruin his chances of a move, but Antena 2 say that is not the case and Brighton are ‘still exploring his signing’.

The Seagulls were linked with a move earlier this year and according to the outlet, those around Cruz Azul continue to confirm that they are showing an interest in him.

The Mexican club have already moved to try and ward this off by renewing the player until 2029, although this does not appear to have warded off Brighton as yet.

That in turn has seen Cruz Azul respond by making it clear because of the new contract they want ‘a large sum of money’ for his transfer, with the current asking price set at around €8m.

That’s actually not a huge fee for any Premier League team and certainly not Brighton, who are flush with cash after the last few years of big sales. Whether they decide to step forward and make an official offer remains to be seen.
