When you’ve reached the top of the mountain, it’s hard to do so again and that’s certainly been the case for former Tottenham man Lucas Moura.
But that wait is now finally over according to UOL, who say cover the Brazilian today and how he brought a very negative streak to a timely end at São Paulo.
They explain that that the 32-year-old ‘put on a show’ in the recent 3-0 win over Vasco and, in the process, did something he hadn’t done since the historic clash between Tottenham and Ajax. He score two goals in a game.
That hadn’t happened since the history 2019 Champions League final in which he scored three goals for Tottenham to secure a historic win over Ajax and book Spurs’ place in the final.
Since then, Moura had never found the back of the next more than once in the same match. Even more curious is the fact that he had done it before in the 2018/19 season too, bagging a double against Manchester United and a hattrick against Huddersfield Town less than a month before that clash with Ajax.
Since then, though, he’s managed 161 games for Tottenham and 58 for São Paulo without managing more than one goal in a game. There were 23 goals for the Premier League side and 21 assists and 13 goals and eight assists for São Paulo before the win over Vasco but never a double.
That negative streak has now been broke, though as he put on a ‘show’ against Vasco and his first ‘major performance’ after returning to the Brazilian side.
Now it’s a question of whether he can do it again and prove that this display is not just a brief resurgence in the latter days of his career.
