Brighton and Hove Albion striker Deniz Undav was a surprise visitor at VfB Stuttgart this week as the two clubs continue to negotiate about him.

That’s according to Stuttgarter Nachrichten, who cover the player today and his visit to watch his former teammates at training.

The newspaper reports that the Brighton striker is currently on holiday after Germany were knocked out of Euro 2024 last week.

He’s enjoying his time off and waiting to discover what lies ahead for him as he pushes to try and seal a return to Stuttgart, who he spent last season on loan with.

Brighton and Stuttgart have been locked in negotiations for some time over a deal, with the Seagulls working hard to ensure that they get a top price for the German striker.

They’ve already responded to Stuttgart activating a purchase clause in the loan deal with a clause of their own to buy Undav back, effectively stopping a deal from happening and forcing negotiations over a bigger transfer fee.

Undav, meanwhile, has been making it clear publically that he wants to return to Stuttgart after enjoying his time on loan with them last season.

It seems he may have made another effort to point that out this week, as he was the ‘surprise guest’ at Stuttgart’s training session on Tuesday.

He ‘stopped by’ to see his old, and possibly new, colleagues as they get underway in pre-season, even if negotiations between Brighton and the club are yet to progress positively.

Stuttgart Nachrichten say it is clear Stuttgart want the player and it is also clear that Undav wants to go back and perhaps this public appearance is another sign of that fact.

Indeed, they even hint this may have been something of a publicity stunt as he ‘quickly disappeared’ from the Roberto Schlienz Stadium after his public visit and it was unclear whether he even signed autographs for the fans who had turned up to see him.

Whether it works remains to be seen, with Brighton so far refusing to budge or blink in the poker game with Stuttgart.
