Manchester United have made a €30m bid to sign Barcelona’s Fermín López, according to Tuesday’s edition of Sport.
The La Liga side have to sell some of their players to balance their books, and it looks like Manchester United have tried taking advantage of this by making an approach for the 21-year-old.
It’s claimed the Catalan club ‘responded with a smile’ before rejecting Manchester United’s €30m bid for the midfielder.
Hansi Flick’s side consider the Premier League side’s offer insufficient. They are also not planning to sell the Spain international, who they rate highly.
The young star came up through the ranks of the Spanish club’s academy and made his way into their first team at the start of last season. He featured regularly and managed 11 goals and an assist from 42 games.
The newspaper states that if Manchester United are keen on securing López’s services, they ‘will have to stretch further’, meaning return with an improved offer. They add Barca will only consider selling the player if there’s an ‘irrefutable offer’.
Sport make no mention of the fee needed to convince Barcelona to sanction López’s sale this summer.
An important note here is that the Catalan media have been claiming bids and interest regarding multiple players and it feels more for a domestic audience than reality.
We’d question whether Manchester United have made this offer and whether they’re even interested. If they are, then that will become clear in the coming days.
