Recently there’s been repeat claims from the Spanish media that Alex Moreno wants to leave Aston Villa and return to Spanish football.

The 31-year-old joined Aston Villa from Real Betis in January 2023, having spent all of his previous career in Spain. According to several reports in the Spanish media, he’s keen to return and Betis would be his preferred option.

Last season, the left back wasn’t a regular starter for Unai Emery and perhaps he feels he could more prominence if he returned to the La Liga and Betis.

However, according to Diario de Sevilla, that won’t be happening this year. The newspaper reports Betis are in no rush to sign Moreno and would rather wait a year so the transfer would be easier to do.

Moreno has a contract with Aston Villa which lasts until June 2026, and the plan revolves around him being cheaper in a year because he’d only have a season left on his deal.

Another issue for Real Betis is that they couldn’t get close to the salary he earns now so it may be better for the player if he gets another year of that.
