Liverpool’s potential interest in Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala has been dismissed in Germany, with reports linking them getting one key piece of information incorrect.
That’s according to SportBILD journalist Christian Falk, who covers the story on Englishe Woche, explaining that reports in England have gotten information about contract renewal talks wrong.
Musiala has been linked with a move away from Bayern in the last few months as he’s yet to sign an extension to his current deal, which expires in 2026.
He’s had something of an indifferent campaign under Thomas Tuchel and it had been suggested he was assessing his options ahead of the summer rather than committing fully to a new long-term deal.
Several Premier League sides have been linked with a move as a result, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City all long-term admirers of him.
Falk, though, insists those reports can be considered wide of the mark, at least as far as he’s concerned.
“That’s true. Both Manchester City and Chelsea have been interested in Jamal Musiala for a long time,” he said when asked about recent reports.
“Now the Mirror has also reported that Liverpool interest is not a secret either. What is wrong with the Mirror report is that they said Bayern and Musiala had already talked about the contract and Musiala refused to extend it.
“No, that’s not true, because the talks will only take place after the season. Until then, Jamal Musiala has already asked for a bit of time. Max Eberl has already made it clear that he is the future and that’s exactly what it will take.
“This plan on how to make him a performance carrier for the future at FC Bayern will decide whether he extends or whether he is also a bit fond of becoming relevant again for England.
“Of course, he comes from the island and sooner or later he could end up there. But this time does not have to be now. He can very well imagine extending.”
