Brighton and Hove Albion are offering midfielder Steven Alzate around to various clubs, including Rangers.
That’s according to La Dernière Heure, who say the midfielder could be set to leave Standard Liege in the coming weeks for a move elsewhere, with Rangers as named potential destination.
Alzate has been on loan with Standard Liege since September 2022, with injuries last year limiting his playing time and all parties, including Brighton, agreeing to extend it into this season.
He’s been a regular this season and is considered important to Standard’s way of playing but there is a growing belief he could be set to depart in the coming weeks.
Brighton, for their part, have an option to extend his deal which expires in the summer but don’t intend to take that up and instead are ‘offering’ the Colombian to numerous clubs.
One of those are Rangers, courtesy of manager Philippe Clement, who ‘has made enquiries about the player’ already as he looks to strengthen his squad at Ibrox.
He currently has a number of options in central midfield, with Nicolas Raskin, José Cifuentes, John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Ben Williamson and Steven Davis but perhaps only Todd Cantwell who could be considered a creative player.
That could be why Clement, who has seemingly been keeping an eye on Belgian football, is perhaps looking to bring Alzate to Ibrox.
A deal is certainly there to be done with Brighton, who are more than open to a sale as they look to recoup any figure before his contract expires in the summer. Whether Rangers can offer a figure that satisfies, remains to be seen.
