Mikel Arteta appears to be getting it from all sides at the moment, especially in the UK media.
Clearly it’s fine for the media themselves to present Premier League officials as comedy villains who would trip over their own shoelaces, but when a manager does similar, and perhaps at the wrong time of the wave cycle, he must be attacked.
In the midst of that, Arsenal welcome Sevilla this evening in the Champions League, and they need a good result to bring a difficult spell to an end.
November has seen the Gunners lose to West Ham United and Newcastle United, and that bad spell can be ended quickly.
Whilst sympathy is sent to the manager for the decisions during the Newcastle match, although it’s stated none of the reasons to disallow Anthony Gordon’s goal were ‘conclusive’, it’s thought the real issue is nerves over performances from the team.
Therefore, it’s felt that disappointment in performances and worry over such, as much as feeling let down by officiating, is causing Arteta to appear rattled.
Tonight is a good opportunity to end all of that.
